Five Guys Burgers: Growing Fast With Good Business


A “better burger” and some of the best French fries around are the secret of the fastest growing restaurant chain in America—Five Guys Burgers and Fries.

Beyond the famed food—which golfer Phil Mickelson called “hands down the best burger I’ve ever had”—is the relationship between the corporate offices and franchises.  Awards are given to crews passing cleanliness audits; Five Guys aggressive hiring the best people from failed chains such as Checkers.

Forbes magazine recently published a profile of the popular burger chain, highlighting founder Jerry Murrell (who, with his four sons make up the first “Five Guys”). It sheds some light as to why the chain, with more than 1000 locations in the U.S. and Canada, has something of a cult following.
